For fannish communities there's also
http://newbieguide.dreamwidth.org/profile which tries to list
communities as they are created on DW here:
http://newbieguide.dreamwidth.org/259.html.
For now it's dependent on people leaving a comment when they create or
find a community.

On Livejournal it is one of the best resources for finding communities for
those who are new to LJ or a particular fandom.
http://community.livejournal.com/newbieguide/profile and the master list:
http://community.livejournal.com/newbieguide/6259.html.

Re feeds. It would be great to have a directory of feeds searchable by
topic. On LJ it's hard to find a feed that's
not on the most pupular list.
