I've heard a lot about Dreamwidth, have read the FAQ and some of the posts about the progress of the site development, but I'm wondering: if you don't have a paid account, is the only other way to use the site by getting an invite code? How long will that continue? I ask because I'm afraid of this site becoming like LiveJournal after a while, with so many people on there that the whole thing just becomes a mess.
