I need use it and I definitely need it :-) See http://www.cgarbs.de/dwm-mitch.en.html It contains a patch to use "normal" workspaces instead of tags and another one to set a different layout on every workspace. Because the patches stack on each other, you won't be able to apply the per-workspace-patch on top of a vanilla dwm, but you should get the idea. Basically it's just adding array indices to some variables.
