The beginner rig and ant is an interesting problem: Option 1 is to get a radio with an automatic hetrodyne killer button, and maybe some noise reduction that works because these are two things that a new guy can do immediately with his radio and hear the difference in an important way. New guys are easily discouraged and that can happen with a cheap rig and too limited antenna.
2 If not that, then most any radio will do, but don't forget the massive bargain represented by a used Drake TR-7... one of the finest ham radios ever built, but no tone killer and no DSP and no computer control.... but now so cheap used as to be ridiculous considering what u get... if the big Drake 7 power supply is thrown in, the supply alone is worth $200 and the rigs are selling for about that now, sad. 3. I recommend two phased all band verticals... if u have 66 feet of separation room. Simple, cheap even when new, and no support problems, AND a little directivity and gain!!! 73, Charles Harpole [EMAIL PROTECTED] _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems http://njdxa.org/dx-chat To post a message, DX related items only, [EMAIL PROTECTED] This is the DX-CHAT reflector sponsored by the NJDXA http://njdxa.org
