Here are some preliminary OPERATIONAL comparisons between several recent rigs. Same antenna, instant switching among the radios, listening with interior speakers, same BW settings, same brand filter in Yaesuss, SSB only, all ham bands, default settings inside all rigs, etc.

Yaesu Mark 5 #1; Yaesu Mark 5 #2 same age but tweeked maybe, ICOM IC-756Pro2 (brand new(, and ICOM IC-718 (for grins)

Mark 5 number 1... higher pitch audio, one S unit more stingy than Mk5 #2 and Pro2.
Mark 5 number 2.... just back from Yaesu for factory tweeks... Most satisfying to listen to of all with a bit more base than Mk5#1 and discernable less band noise than Pro2 but just barely.

718 with Pre Amp ON, had a very hot rcvr, equal to all the others in sensitivity and occasionally more even than the Pro2.... BUT the AGC is too fast for SSB and thus some pumping and more QRM from nearby sigs, of course.

Pro2 use of PreAmp number 2 may make things worse many times due to advanced band noise without equal increase in desired sig. Altho, I kept Pro2 on PreAmp #2 setting "maybe to make things equal" to the other rigs which should be also running wide open. BandScope is vy nice and finally now is in real time (almost, and so close as not to matter).

The 1.9 INRADS in the Mark 5s and the 1.8 stock Pro2 DSP filter usage:
The two Yaesus were functionally identical. The Pro2 1.8 setting was not quite as good in killing adjacent channel QRM, but remember this factory default settings. The 718 got killed.

This weekend, I will put a 1000 MP and a 1000 D in this mix and give another report.
