I just bought a Yaesu FT-920 as a backup/vacation rig.   I have a question about cw keying.

I use an external keyer.   I do NOT wish to use the internal keyer.   I plug my keyer output to the key jack on the rig.  As I key my external keyer, I can hear the cw sidetone in the rig itself.  So, I know that the keyer is keying the rig, as I can hear it.

With Vox set to "ON"  (depressed), the rig transmitter should key, but it doesn't.   The only way to make the rig transmit is to depress Mox.   When I do, the rig keys cw just fine.  Again, I know that the external keyer is "doing its thing", and that the rig has output on cw.

I can also press Bk-In, and the rig keys just fine, but I like for the rig to stay on much longer between the letters of my cw text.   So, I am sure that what I am trying to work out on this new rig is  semi break-in cw keying .

This rig is very similar to the FT-1000MP which I also have, but it is not at my present location so I cannot compare it.

Can someone help me figure this out please ??
