No, Slovakia did quit Chechoslovakia then, but I don't remember if it was a decision by referendum or by the Slovakian local parlement. Fortunately and also thanks to Chechoslovakian president Vaclav Havel this became a peaceful separation. But as you say we'll know soon enough.
