You might recall Marty's 3C experience in his book. Everyone walks on eggshells due to the way the ruling government is organized. The word "volatile" is an understatement. No one can do anything with certainty...and more like one does anything there with considerable uncertainty. Briefly stated....there are apparently no guiding principles for doing or not doing anything. It's a very dangerous place to go. Steve N0SM

While I think I join everyone in wishing all team members a healthy, safe, quick and uneventful trip back, a small part of me is wondering if their planning - or lack thereof - perhaps contributed to their unfortunate situation.
I don't say this lightly, but considering the way their on-air operation was being run when it was QRV, I have to wonder what their preparations were like in the first place. Was regulatory approval in fact obtained? Did they confer with officials before setting up, etc? I would hate to think that an entity might now become off-limits to us for years or even decades because of poor preparation or research into what was needed. I think (I hope) I'm young enough that I might still be around next time 3C0 gets activated, but I'd hate to think it may be the last chance for some.
I think this also may serve as a cautionary tale to others planning DX-peditions to remote or third-world entities.
Once again, please understand that I'm not pointing any fingers at anyone, and I do wish all participants a safe swift trip back to their loved ones. I'm just giving words to concerns I've had myself and to comments heard on a few local repeaters and from other DXers I know.
