Password is the wrong terminology. If you want to post to the DX-NEWS reflector, must make sure that the subject line begins with the text:
[:dx-news:] This is the "password" that everyone is referring to. Why do this? Spammers won't have this text string in their advertisements, so they won't be able to post to the list. Why not just restrict posting to members only? Well, a lot of spam nowadays has forged From: fields, and many of these contain valid E-mail addresses of reflector subscribers. Thus the spam would get through because the reflector software would think that a subscriber is posting it. I don't particularly like this method. A majority of the lists I subscribe to run the Mailman software, on machines that filter spam on receipt (i.e. before the list manager software gets it), and I get no spam from these lists.
