>>> IOTA ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AT RSGB HF CONVENTION, GATWICK <<<
The next opportunity to celebrate IOTA's 40th Anniversary is at the RSGB HF &
IOTA Convention at the Gatwick Worth Hotel, near Gatwick Airport in West
Sussex, over Friday 22 to Sunday 24 October. A special programme is being
organised for the IOTA stream that includes Onwards to 50 Years, a keynote
presentation on possible major new programme developments by the IOTA
Committee including prospects for a link into Logbook Of The World. In
addition there will be presentations during the weekend on recent island
operations by 3B9C (how could we miss that?), T33C and OX/DL2VFR, as well as
videos of the VI5WCP and VI5BR Australian DXpeditions. There will also be
talks by the 7Q7MM and TJ3G operators as well as DXCC card checking. There
are two other lecture streams, one covering contesting and technical matters
including experimentation, propagation, etc and the other for beginners and
those interested in a new area of the hobby. The highlight of the weekend
will be a Gala Dinner on the Saturday evening. Full details are at
www.rsgb.org/hfc and you can book on-line there. Alternatively contact RSGB
Events at 1 The Beeches, Banstead, Surrey SM7 2AZ or e-mail
[EMAIL PROTECTED] if you have any questions concerning the booking of
accommodation packages, advance purchase of day tickets, etc.

>>> CALLING IOTA CONTEST PARTICIPANTS <<<
A number of participants in the RSGB IOTA Contest and/or their QSL managers
may not be aware of IOTA requirements for the acceptance of cards for IOTA
awards. The callsign used and the name of a qualifying island from which the
operation took place both need to be printed on the QSL. A computer generated
QSL label giving the island name and the IOTA number may be affixed to the
card - this should preferably be stamped or signed across a corner to ensure
integrity. We do not accept cards where the callsign has been amended or
where the island name has been handwritten or omitted altogether. The IOTA
number, although highly desirable, is not an adequate replacement for the
island name. There are very good reasons for these rules which those
interested may find in the IOTA Directory.

>>> IOTA DIRECTORY - 40TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION <<<
The 40th Anniversary Edition of the IOTA Directory is available for purchase
via the RSGB website at http://www.rsgbshop.org/shop/acatalog/ - click Radio
Books & CDs and then IOTA, or by telephone to Sales at +44 (0)1707 659015.
Larger than ever with 136 pages, this anniversary edition features an
historical review, much of which has never previously been published as well
as Geoff Watts' original IOTA list of 1964, fascinating for what it includes
as well as for what it omits. It includes all you have come to expect of the
Directory - the latest IOTA island listings, DXpedition stories, the Most
Wanted List, and articles on how to get started in IOTA.
Readers, who have been active on the bands for several years and want help in
identifying operations that count, will find the listing of operations
accepted for credit quite invaluable. This listing was first introduced in
the 2002 Directory and is now updated and expanded to cover the 650 rarest
IOTA groups. Using it could save you hours in preparing your application. And
for the first time the Directory includes the current year's Honour Roll and
other performance listings.
