The vessel sails from the UK on September 22nd, and he will operate as GM0HCQ/MM for the trip to the Falkland Islands (VP8). His Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) is October 20th. From there Mike will then operate as VP8CMH/MM while onboard the ship. All being well, Mike will also operate from the following bases: 1) Signy Base, South Orkney Islands. Callsign will be VP8SIG. The proposed dates are October 26-31st. 2) South Georgia. Callsign will be VP8SGK. The proposed dates are November 2-7th and November 18th. 3) Rothera Base, Adelaide Island. Callsign will be VP8ROT. The proposed dates are December 7-12th. All the dates are provisional and may well change for operational reasons. Operating from the bases also depends upon Mike's workload onboard the ship and the work that is being carried out at the base during the ship visit. Mike states, "I hope this year to be able to operate on CW from Signy as I will be taking my Ten-Tec Corsair with me. Normally I use the base equipment, but Signy does not have a CW facility. " Mike advises OPDX that he will be publishing information regarding the operation from the bases nearer the time via his Web site. * E-mail: http://www.gm0hcq.com Last spots in the Packet Cluster: UA4HBW 14019.0 GM0HCQ/MM 43N, 10W 0638 27 Sep 2004 DJ6TK 10120.1 GM0HCQ/MM Mike on Pos. 29N and 19W 2020 30 Sep 2004 ON5FP 10123.0 GM0HCQ/MM BAS RESEARCH SHIP op MIKE 2123 02 Oct 2004 G3OOK 14015.9 GM0HCQ/MM QTH 15N 26W 1757 03 Oct 2004 ****************************************************************************

From Singapore, on September 19th, the Microlite Penguins DXpedition Team
announced that it has been awarded an exclusive sponsorship granted by the Northern California DX Foundation, Inc. (NCDXF) [see NCDXF below], thus enabling the planned 2005 DXpedition to the Kerguelen Islands (FT/X). The press release states: "A multinational team of twelve highly experienced operators from France, Ireland, Switzerland, Canada, Australia, Singapore, South Africa and the United States will activate Kerguelen on the HF bands between 15 March and 02 April, 2005. The New Zealand registered vessel Braveheart, used during the 2002 Microlite DXpedition to South Georgia (VP8GEO) and South Sandwich (VP8THU), will again be supporting the group for their entire 30-day journey. 'This DXpedition is funded entirely by the twelve team members and a generous and exclusive grant by the Northern California DX Foundation, said James Brooks, 9V1YC, DXpedition Team Leader. 'There are no other club, foundation, individual, manufacturer or QSL sponsors.' Additional details regarding the Kerguelen Islands DXpedition will be released in the coming weeks." . Posted 03/10/2004 14:53:00 Subject: XX Italian Antarctic Scientific Expedition to MZS/BTN Hi Folks, the XX Scientific Italian Expedition to MZS/BTN (MarioZucchelli Station Baia Terra Nova) is almost ready to start (October 10th to 15th). I have just received a visit at my home, from a great friend, NCO Danilo Collino, Worrenty Officer and Mountain Guide, who will be one of the guides of the Convoy that will leave MZS/BTN to Concordia Station-Dome "C". There will be a group of people (Researchers, Doctors and Scientists) who will be overwintering at Concordia station this coming winter. We will get more infos from them, for the WW Antarctic enthusiasts. On the mean time, I take the oportunity to remind that W.A.P. (Worldwide Antarctic Program) web site, have almost completed its restyling(TNX IZ8BRI) This coming week, the Pictures of the 1st WAP Meeting will be on line, as well as the PPT presentation done there at Mondovi'(CN) Italy last Sept19th We are now working on the Callsigns Dbase, which as by now, reached more than 1500 callsigns operating from Antarctica and Sub Antarctic Territories. This tool, developped by IK1GPG (the WAP Award Manager) and myself, will be put on the web site in a week or two. Thanks to those who are greatly helping us. Enjoy Antarctica Gianni I1HYW **************************************************************************** A lot of other information to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/antarctica_list/ **************************************************************************** 73s John I1HYW, Max IK1GPG and Betty IK1QFM
