QST.... Dec. 7 news from K4VUD/VU3CHE/HS0ZCW:
I am behind on my email because my email cel telephone was stolen out of my belt pouch in a crowd in Bangkok. I spent two days getting another one and getting it to work computer to phone to internet.... Here is some solid news about the VU4 DXpedition:
1. Bharathi has told me directly that she, at least, is determined to be operational on VU4 until Dec.31.
2. NIAR is the ultimate source for news of this operation. [EMAIL PROTECTED] is their address.
3. I have my own airline ticket to arrive Port Blair at about 8:30AM on Dec. 14 (Andaman time). I will respectfully request answers to all questions I have received here but have no current answers. Major questions are "How to QSL?" "How to include return postage payment?" and "When will VU4 be on ______ mode and ______ band?" If there is email on VU4, I will post answers to this site.
4. Bharthi has at least one beam, but it has not been installed yet.
5. My email load is too big to anwer all queries ... please read the DX-NEWS postings.
6. I worked VU4RBI her first day from my FL QTH on 20 ssb by doing this : (a) saw posting for her freq, (b) listened to her whispers for hours, (c) detected a rising in sig strength, (d) waited for peak (which lasted about 15 min.) (e) worked her on first call. I had no sked, no special info, no prior deal. I have a 5 el monobander at 70 feet and 1500 watts. I hrd mostly stateside working her that session. The PY was likely her first non-VU station worked.
7. Yesterday, by listening from Bangkok and just by tuning around, wked VU4NRO on 15 ssb with his 5-3 signal. Not a slam dunk.
More if I get more. Hope to hear you over the shoulder of a VU operator when I get to Andaman.
This is about as good as it gets.... u can't imagine how happy I am this DXpedition is going and going as it is. Best DX to all 73,
Charles Harpole [EMAIL PROTECTED]
