[Tnx SOTA U.K.] 05/01/2006: Here is an update on the DXpedition to the Philippine Kalayaan Island, Spratly Islands (IOTA AS-051) which was originally scheduled to take place in the December 2005 time frame. The target dates are now January 5-19, 2006 with special call DX0A. 4F2KWT, Gil, says "Focus will be the low bands and targeting the East Coast of North America." Equipment will include FT1000MPs, kilowatt solid state amplifies, which will be powered by two Honda generators. They will have phased verticals. The team will also be QRV on the high bands, including WSJT on 6 meters EME. One of the ops will be N0NM (DU9/N0NM), Jon, a low band expert. This one is still in the development stage. The Portland was a large paddlewheel steamer, almost 300 ft. long, known as a "night boat", which kept a nightly schedule between Boston, Massachusetts and Portland, Maine for almost 10 years. The Portland had aboard about 198 men, women and children and all were lost.
