Yes, I remember seeing that photo. Thankfully, for despite their faults, the British police haven't (yet) got to the state of pointing guns at small children.
It's interesting that apparently we've been asked to flood the QSL mailbox with QSL requests. It did occur to me whilst the guys were spending most of the time working Yanks that just in case there was some lobbying to do they wanted a large number of voting US taxpayers behind them, log books in hand, clamouring for the right outcome. I suspect that they've got permission from one bureaucrat who's not anti ham radio and some other one has found out and stopped the operation. It could just be that there are just two departments of bureaucrats who aren't talking to each other, especially on a weekend before the holidays. I imagine that depending on the internal politics of the FWS there will be back-pedalling and permission revoked or the original permission will stand. Either way, bureaucrats usually cave in to political pressure - at least that's the way things work in the UK - so if there's lobbying then that could swing the decision. Anyway, how come ecomentalist-tree-huggers in the FWS are starting to rule the US? I thought it was just us in Europe who have to put up with these clowns... Someone said on one of the lists why didn't they try to reason with the FWS agents (if thats who the "cops" were). I was a newspaper reporter for 20+ years and went on many different raids or busts or whatever you want to call them with city police, state police, and some federal agents, on all kinds of operations, even with the Texas Comptroller's Office tax agents when they raided busineeses for not paying state sales taxes they collected. (and an aside my sister-in-law was a Texas state revenue agent back in the 1980s), During nearly every operation officers never gave anyone a chance to "explain" or "reason" first, that might have come later, but they always wanted to get control of the situation first and then maybe listen later. Remember the photo of the INS agent holding an automatic weapon on Elian Gonzales the little Cuban child that had been ordered sent back to Cuba from Miami? This was a simple child return case, but the INS agent was wearing a stell helment, bulletproof vest, holding an autpomatic weapon, etc. and the look on Elian's face was something else looking down the barrel of that automatic weapon. As another aside, that photo won a Pulitzer Prize for news photography. I'm sure K3LP, et.al. will have a heck of a story to tell once they get back.
