19/01/2006:  Alfeo (I1HJT), Silvano (I2YSB), Carlo (IK1AOD), Carlo
(IK1HJS), Marcello (IK2DIA), Adriano (IK2GNW) and possibily a seventh
operator will be active from Somalia for two weeks starting January
19th. They will operate as 6O0N (im memory of Adam Nuur Maxamed Islam)
with three stations on all bands (6 meters included) SSB, CW and RTTY.
Look for 6O0N to participate in the CQ WW 160M CW Contest on 28-29

19/01/2006:  Salvo, IV3YIM, will be active January 19th as IV3YIM/IT9
from the Tower of Orsa to Cinisi (DCI reference PA-035 for the Italian
castles award), region of Sicily (IOTA EU-025, IIA SC-001, MIA MI-107,
also count for Sicilia Island lighthouse WLOTA LH-1362), Province of

19/01/2006:  W9JUV (Joe) and W9VA (Bill) will operate from the Signal
Point Station (http://www.pj2t.org) on the island of Curacao (IOTA
SA-006) from January 19-27th. QSL via home calls. K8ND (Jeff) will also
be operating from the Signal Point Station on January 23-31st, including
a single-operator entry in the CQ WW 160 Meter CW Contest (January
28-29th) as PJ2T. Before and after the contest he will focus on 40 and
80 meters and will test receiving antennas on 160m. QSL PJ2/K8ND via

January 19-22nd as T88AO, T88CY, T88OP and T88AI respectively. QSL via

19/01/2006:  ZA/IK0OKY, Op Emilio, (UN Peace-Keeper in Tirana until
August 2006), will be active all evenings from 20:00 to 23:00 UTC and
weekends from 06:30 UTC onwards in FSK441A. Grid square JN91wh. He is

19/01/2006:  Dave W3WKP (ZF2DC) and Jim W8ERI (ZF2ZL) are both QRV from
the Cayman Islands (IOTA NA-016) until January 22nd. QSL via their home

19/01/2006:  Olav, LA9VFA, will operate SSB and digital modes as ZK1VFA
from Raratonga (OC-013), South Cook Islands, from January 19-28th. QSL

20/01/2006:  Herm CT3FN and Rudi CT3/HB9CQL will be QRV January 20th to
February 1st from Madeira Island (IOTA AF-014, DIP MA-001). Activity
will be on all bands and modes. On January 21st and 22nd, Herm will
operate as CT9F from the São Jorge/Rosais lighthouse located on the
north coast of Madeira Island (DFP FMA-005 for the Portuguese lighthouse
award, ARLHS MAD-008, WLOTA LH-0053), from inside the lighthouse. QSL

20/01/2006:  Look for Paul F6EXV (MU0EXV) and Jan DJ8NK (GU0VNK) to be
QRV January 20-30th from the Bailiwick of Guernsey (IOTA EU-114).
Activity will be on 160-10 meter SSB, CW and digital modes. QSL via
their home calls (QRZ.com addresses). This activity will also count for

21/01/2006:  DXpedition to Robinson Crusoe Island (Juan Fernandez), IOTA
SA-005 - January 21st to 28th - All operators are confirmed:

to go. Airplanes tickets and hostelling are confirmed. During the

for the French castles award), City of Paron (CP 89100), Canton Sens
Ouest (89-30), Department of Yonne (89), Province of Burgundy. Activity
will be on 40 meter CW and SSB starting around 07:00 UTC. QSL via F5JNE,

21/01/2006:  Patrick, F6GAF/p, will activate the Castle Monceau (DFCF
reference 44-028 for the French castles award) on January 21st. Other

21/01/2006:  Look for Salvatore, IK1AWV/p, to be QRV January 21st from
two references for the Italian castles award (DCI). He will activate the
Tower of the Paciotta of Albenga (DCI SV-011) and the Fort of Albenga
(DCI SV-012), Region of Liguria, Province of Savona (SV). Activity will
start around 08:00 UTC, weather permitting, on 40 and 20 meter SSB. QSL

21/01/2006:  Jose, N4BAA (KG4SB) and Bill, W4WV (KG4WV) will be active
from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (IOTA NA-015), January 21-31st. Activity will
be on all bands 160-6 meters. During a 2-4 day period, Bill (KG4WV) will
activate Windward Point lighthouse (WLH KG4-001, ARLHS GTM-001, WLOTA
LH-0358) as well. Jose (KG4SB) will also participate in the CQ 160-Meter

22/01/2006:  Several members of The Canary Islands DX Society (CIDXS)
will be active as ED8CSF from San Francisco's castle on January 22nd.
Activity will be on 80-10 meter SSB, RTTY and PSK31. The castle
references are: DCE: CGC 015 - DMHE: MGC 203 - IOTA: AF004 - D.I.E.:
S005 - DME: 35.016 - GRID: IL28GC and is located in the city of Las
Palmas de Gran Canaria, Capital city of Gran Canaria Island (IOTA
AF-004, DIE S-005), in the North east part of the island. This castle is
a new reference for the Spanish castles award (DCE) and a new reference
in the Spanish Monuments Historic Award (DMHE). Further information can

22/01/2006:  Look for Martino, IW1PNJ, to be active January 22nd as
I5/IW1PNJ/p from the Forte Filiop di Monte Argentario (DCI reference
GR-075 for the Italian castles award), Region of Toscana, Province of

23/01/2006:  A group of 5 to 6 operators will be traveling to Cayo
Jutias Island (IOTA NA-093) and lighthouse (ARLHS CUB-022) in the last
week of January, 2006. Operators mentioned so far are: CO2WL, CO3CJ,
CO3JN, CO3LF and CO3VK. The Team will be active on 40, 20, 15 meter SSB
and CW, but PSK31 and other bands are possible. Each operator will use
his personal call /1 and the QSL route is via IZ8EBI (QRZ.com). This is
a very hard DXped because there aren't any commodities on the wild Cayo.
The team has a lot of necessities so we are looking for sponsors and
donors. For any possible help from you as "sponsor" please email the

24/01/2006:  The Lufthansa Amateur Radio Club, LARC, will be active as
3V8DLH from Borj Cedria, Tunisia, between January 24-31st. Activity will
be on 160m-6m CW, Digital and SSB. QSL via DJ3FK (QRZ.com). Further

24/01/2006:  The Provins ARS members, Franck/F4AJQ (SSB), Serge/F6AML
(CW/SSB), Pascal/F5JSD (CW/SSB webmaster), John/F5VHQ/0E5TGL (SSB),
Bernard/F9IE (CW/SSB), Jean Paul/F8BJI (Digit/SSB), Romain/F8BUI
(Digi/SSB/CW), Gérard/F2VX (SSB) and Jean-Marc/F8IXZ (CW) are once again
on tour. From January 24th to February 2nd, 2006, they will be active as
5H1C, from Zanzibar Island (IOTA AF-032, lighthouse WLOTA LH-1080). The
activity is scheduled from 160 to 10 meter CW, SSB and digital modes
(RTTY, PSK31 and PSK63 .. main operators F8BJI & F8BUI). 5H1C will
participate in the CQ WW 160M CW Contest (January 28-29th). The French
speaking countries pilot station is Bruno, F5AGB. The QSL route is via
F5TVG direct (Franck Savoldi, BP 92, 94223 Charenton Cedex, France), or

25/01/2006:  If you are missing HB0 on top band look for us HB0/T93M
(N4EXA) Danny, HB0/T93Y Boris, HB0/T94DX (DJ2MX) Mario, HB0/T94JJ
(OE1EMS) Braco and HB0/T96Q Ivek between January 25th and February 1st.
They will also be active in WW DX 160m CW contest using the HB0/T94DX
call. Before and after contest they will operate with 3 stations on all
HF bands, but with focus on 160m and 80m! They will use verticals,
dipoles and loops (K9AY; maybe beverage RX) on low bands! The QTH is the
same as used by HB0/DL2OBO and they will have some problems working JA?s
and far east because of the high hills in that direction. QSL via

26/01/2006:  Rick PY2EL/p and Wal PY2WC/p will activate Comprida Island
(IOTA SA-024, DIB 21 for the Brazilian islands award) from January
26-30th. Look for activity on all HF bands, also 6 meters and 144/432
MHz, mostly CW, SSB and digital (PSK31/RTTY). QSL is ok via the bureau.

26/01/2006:  The F6KOP, City of Provins, ARS will enter the French
Championship HF, both modes CW and SSB, using the special call TM0C. The
main dates will be January 28 (starting 06:00 UTC) and January 29
(ending at 18:00 UTC); and February 25 (starting 06:00 UTC) and 26
(ending at 18:00 UTC). Pericontest activities all modes and bands HF and

26/01/2006:  Kyle, WA4PGM, will be active as VP9/WA4PGM from the island
of Bermuda (IOTA NA-005, also count for WLOTA LH-0201 lighthouse)
January 26-30th. Activity will be on all bands. He will also participate
in the CQ WW 160m CW Contest (January 28-29th) as a Single-Operator

27/01/2006:  On January 27th and again on January 30th, Jac (F5YJ) be
active as F5YJ (not portable, only F5YJ, resident), from my new main
QTH, in Poilly sur Serein (CP 89310, Canton DDCF 8921), Department Yonne
(89), Province of Burgundy. As two other references are less than 500
meters distance, activities will count for: the Hâtes Castle (DFCF
89049) and the Poilly sur Serein Mill (DMF 89001). Look for Jac on 40

will start around 07:00 UTC on 7.065 and 14.165 MHz SSB, also 145.500

03/02/2006:  Operators Ray N6VR, Norm N6JV, Marco XE2TG, Gerardo XE2Q,
Bernado XE2HWB and Hector XE2K plan to be active February 3-5th from any
of the islands in the Baja California Sur State South East group (IOTA
NA-124) [Espiritu Santo, Ballena or Cerralvo]. They will use the call
XF1K on 80-10 meter CW and SSB, with 3 stations operating
simultaniously. Look for activity around the usual IOTA frequencies (+/-

11/02/2006:  SV3FUO (Petros) and SV3BSF (Nikos) will be active as J43BSF
from Greece during the CQ WW WPX RTTY Contest (February 11-12th) as a

11/02/2006:  Paolo, I2UIY, will be active as P40G from the island of
Aruba (IOTA SA-036) during the CQ WW RTTY WPX Contest (February

12/02/2006:  Dennis, WA2USA, plans to be QRV as WA2USA/4 from Bogue
Banks, Emerald Isle (IOTA NA-112, USI NC-010S) located in Onslow Bay,
Carteret county, Maine from February 12-19th. He plans to enter the ARRL
DX CW Contest (February 18-19th) as a Single-Operator/All-Band entry.

15/02/2006:  K3LP (Dave) is heading back to Saint Martin/Sint Maarten
(IOTA NA-105) for the ARRL CW DX Contest. Traveling with him will be
W3ARS (Clint). The two will be QRV as PJ7/K3LP and PJ7/W3ARS from
February 15-22nd. During the ARRL CW DX Contest Dave will operate as
FS5UQ running Single-Op/Low-Power, while Clint will operate on the WARC
and 6 meter bands. The activity from Sint Maarten (PJ7) will also count
for the Sint Maarten lighthouse (WLOTA LH-0711). QSL via home calls.

17/02/2006:  Martti OH2BH (V31BH) and Pertti OH2PM (V31PP) will be
cruising in the Caribbean with their ladies to activate Belize in both
ARRL International DX Contests, multi-operator all-bands (CW: February
18-19th and SSB: March 4-5th). QSLs to their respective home callsigns.

04/03/2006:  Tom, ZP5AZL, will be active from Paraguay as ZP0R during
the ARRL DX SSB Contest (March 4-5th). No other details were given. QSL

17/03/2006:  IOTA BASH 2006 - On Friday and Saturday (March 17th and
18th) Mike AD5A is planning a get together for IOTA enthusiasts in
Boerne, Texas (near San Antonio). There will be presentations from Mike
McGirr K9AJ on his recent IOTA trips to VY0 and YN4 and possibly his
trip to the Farallon islands NA178, which is planned for Feb, 2006.
There will also be lots of time to socialize. This will be the second
annual IOTA Bash. They are planning for there to be DXCC card checking
and other special guest. All information, including directions and

10/05/2006:  Ron, SM7DKF, will be QRV May 10-20th from the island of St.
Barthelemy (IOTA NA-146, DIFO FJ-001). Look for activity on all HF

11/02/2006: Two new French special callsigns will be active around and
during the next Antarctica Week (February 20-26th). These two callsigns
will be ended by the suffix TAF (Which means in French language "Terres
Australes Françaises" for the "French Australes Territories".
1st) TM0TAF, WAP 043, by the members of the Provins ARS F6KOP, from
February 11-25th. All modes HF and VHF. QSL via Thierry, F4TTR.
2nd) TM8TAF, WAP 042, a joint activity of the Clipperton DX Club and the
Bordeaux DX Group, from February 13-23rd. CW, SSB, Digitals, FM etc.. on

10/04/2006:  NE1RD (Scott) and KZ1O (Dave) will be active April 10-17th
using the Patriots Day special event call K1P from Deer Isle (IOTA
NA-055, USI ME-014S, Hancock county), Maine. Patriots Day celebrates
Massachusetts in the founding of our nation but many do not know Maine
was part of Massachusetts until 1820, split as part of the Missouri
Compromise. Join us from the Maine sea coast celebrating Patriots Day
and New England's tradition of the sea April 10-17, 2006. Look for

01/05/2006:  Special event station SN80LKK will be aired by Wojtek,
SP8MI, to commemorate the 80 anniversary of LKK (Lvovs Shortwave Club -

01/06/2006:  Look for special event station GB4HAA to be aired June
1-28th to celebrate the Inauguration of the Hampshire & I.O.W. Air

SILENT KEY - Former RSGB President, G8HEZ/GW8HEZ, silent key. It is with
sadness that we report the death of former RSGB president Robert Gilmore
Barrett, G8HEZ/GW8HEZ. Robert of Veryan, Cornwall died suddenly on 3
January while on holiday in Sweden. He was 63 years old. Robert served
as RSGB president in 1984, having taken over from Donald Baptiste CBE.
