Reasons for out-of-band capability on one's ham rig: 1. have permission for other freq. usage (like my 5Meg. group) 2. live in country that permits such freqs. 3. want emergency ability to move to emergency freqs. 4. participate in MARS-like activities. 5. want to use the radio with a license for marine mobile. 6. have permission for freq. usage via emergency management offices. 7. want to test antennas at vy low power for resonance. 8. want to generate many freq. test sigs. for signal tracing in other rigs (harmonics, etc.).
