Jean Marc, F8IXZ, will be in the National Park of Djouj, in North Senegal, near the Mauritanian boarder, from December 14-22nd. On the way, at the beginning and at the end of his trip in Senegal, he will have short stays in Dakar where he will sign 6W1/F8IXZ. His equipement consists of a FT847 and a G5RV antenna. DXCC NEWS.................. * The ARRL Letter reports: "The ARRL's DXCC Branch is digging out following the annual 'September rush,' says ARRL Membership Services Manager Wayne Mills, N7NG. Applications postmarked by September 30th have been accepted, and updates received by that date will be included in The DXCC Yearbook, which will be published in the spring. 'Although the DXCC Branch was able to become current last summer, the September deadline has come again along with its inherent increase in workload,' Mills said. 'We are currently working on about 2400 applications which include more than 240,000 QSL cards.' This represents nearly half of all applications--and cards--received each year. Mills said that as applications are logged into the DXCC system, they are listed on the ARRL Web site <http://www.arrl.org/awards/dxcc/appstatus.html>. With new DXCC software in place next year, the League hopes to be able to publish DXCC standings on the ARRL Web site on a near-real-time basis, Mills said, eliminating the need for the September deadline. Victor, UT8LL, along with Massoud, EP2ES, from the Iranian PTT and several other Iranian amateurs activated Qeys (Kish) Island in the Hormozgan Province Group as EP6KI. The island received the new reference number AS-166. Activity took place during the International Air Show between October 30th and November 3rd. QSL via G4WFZ, direct or through the RSGB bureau. It was mentioned that this is the first of several unnumbered IOTA groups in Iran to be activated. AF-004. Frank, DH5JG, will be operating from the Island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands (DIE S-007), as EA8/DH5JG/p from November 17-29th. His rig will be IC-706 with 100w into a Doublet antenna. Mike Young, KM9D, reports that he will be on an amateur radio DXpedition to activate Swains Island, American Samoa. Swains Island is located approximately 200nm NNW of Tutuila Island, near position 11S, 171W. Permission to visit and assemble a temporary radio station has been granted by the Jennings family and their support for this endeavour is very much appreciated. Validation material will be submitted to the IOTA committee for this "rare category" island. The reference assigned for the "Islands on the Air" award program is: OC-200. The single operator/single transmitter, favoring CW, will sign KM9D/KH8. The operation is expected to begin on November 4th and continue for at least one week. In an effort to make contact with as many stations as possible, on all of the continents, it is proposed that activity will be limited to the HF bands, 40-10 meters. Champ, E21EIC, reports that he will not be operating as XW1LLR in the CQWW CW Contest as first announced. He will now be active as XW1IC and as a Single Op/All Band/Low Power entry. He states that he will also be active on 80 and 160 meters. Champ will only be using a 100 watts and plans to be active before and after contest. His activity will also be on the WARC band. As per the YA5T Web page, "the operators are now all on a break, prior to going on another assignment, or already there...... This completes this phase of there operation in Afghanistan. They may return, but at a much latter date." ZF, CAYMAN ISLANDS. Dan, N9XX, states he will be active as ZF2RR outside of the CQWW CW Contest between November 17-26th (as time permits). (Excerpts from a press releases by Lee, ZL2AL) The ZL7C team finished the CQWW DX SSB Contest and went QRT as of 1015z on October 27th, and began a mad rush to pack up all the gear and antenna systems to be ready for their plane to New Zealand on Monday, October 28th. The flight from ZL7 to New Zealand with the gear totaling over a ton in the Convair 440 was expected to take about 3 1/2 hours. The team thanks all the hams around the world that played "cat and mouse" with them over the past two weeks. The provisional total number of QSOs stands at 72,200, including some 5513 QSOs plus 88 dupes logged in the CQWW SSB Contest. This includes 120 Band Zones and 300 Band Countries. Their entry in the CQWW Contest was on two radios only and included operation on 10, 15, 20 and 40 meters.
