true but "$XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP" is null when it runs using xfce4-panel pid would only effect someone using multiple sessions and different DEs which would be limited to certain combinations for example Xubuntu and Lubuntu DEs would get along with each other but they would not get along with the others, but all the others would get along with the others
