In addition, the Desktop Notifications Specification describes a sound-file hint: http://www.galago-project.org/specs/notification/0.9/x344.html This, as well as suppress-sounds, should be supported if the server supports sounds: http://www.galago-project.org/specs/notification/0.9/x408.html notify-osd can implement this feature using libcanberra-gtk.
