I found a way to reproduce this error on demand. It happens when I switch from one specific tab in my workspace to another specific tab. I use: Ubuntu 12.04, eclipse 4.2.2 (Build id: M20130204-1200) - downloaded from eclipse.org

No "Saving workspace" or nothing, it just disappears just like that. This typically happens around twice per day. The latest crash today came when i was asking for code completion pop-up to appear for a class i was working on.
