Dash opens very slowly

Bug description:
I installed one of the daily builds of Ubuntu 13.10 on a Dell XPS M1210
laptop which had been running 13.04 without a problem.
At some point after several updates Dash started to take perhaps a minute to
open and generally now responds very slowly.
