I assume blurring isn't enabled by default in Compiz since it's unstable with
some (all?) Intel chips.
On mine it leads to an unusable desktop.

$ lspci -nn | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS,
943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:27a2] (rev 03)

Is there some kind of fallback that can be used?
Lot's of users will be using Intel's GMAs, and it might be worthy to note that
Cimi - of the rgba capable Murrine engine - is adamantly against transparency
without blurring: http://www.cimitan.com/murrine/node/132#comment-314

Status in Canonical's Notification Display Agent: Confirmed

Bug description:
The area behind the notification display bubble should be blurred. On my Dell
laptop with Intel Mobile GM965/GL960, using X.org 1.6.0-RC2 and the intel
driver, I don't see any blurring. The WM is compiz. Screenshot attached.
