This is indeed a regression due to the change in notify-osd hints. The
gsd patch has been uploaded and should find its way to the jaunty repos
shortly.

Bug description:
notify-osd_0.9-0ubuntu1_amd64 and trunk, of course, no longer display new
notifications for brightness and audio. The default GNOME notification for
those two calls still appear in the botton center.
