notify-osd does not do anything specific here, and it's actually gnome-
power-manager that sends the request. If gpm does not get the right
value from the HW, then n-osd can't do anything here.

Bug description:
Binary package hint: libindicate0

I have an Acer TravelMate 3260 laptop. In hardy, whenever I changed brightness,
the OSD reflected it properly. However, in jaunty, the new notification system
is erratic. I get a notification on changing the brightness, however even after
my brightness is minimum, few bars are filled. Similarly, on increasing the
brightness, even after the brightness is full, a few bars are empty.

A similar problem happened in intrepid too, when gnome-power-manager was being
used to display the OSD on brightness adjustment. I have filed a bug for that
here - https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/304940 I feel that the same bug is
affecting jaunty too.
