This bug is invalid if one is really strict about it. notify-osd does
work without a full gnome-environment. But we went to great lengths to
ensure many apps from the main repository are patched to take full
advantage of the new features and design-guidelines implemented in
notify-osd. You will be able to use notify-osd under e17, just like
David mentioned above, but you'll miss some polish in integration terms
if you're not running GNOME.

Bug description:
I'm using e17 and some elements from gnome. No other notification daemon is 
running. When I try to start notify-osd however, I get this error:
