My laptop screen native resolution is 1280x800. It is possible to have the notifications disappear off the screen altogether when the resolution is set to 800x600. They are partly visible when the resolution is 1024x768.

For example, my laptop panel is 1400x1050 and notifications appear at the top left, on screen (although partially covering the panel - covered by bug 330294). If I change my screen resolution (perhaps I'm using an external display - or maybe for any other reason [in my case using a lower resolution for screencasting]) the notification dialog goes off the screen.
