Thanks Jim, I had already deleted all spots and that didn't make any difference.
But I fixed the problem by rebooting. I had closed down and restarted DX4Win several times to no avail. But when I closed everything down and rebooted - it was all magically fixed. Normally I reboot before asking for help but this didn't seem like a very likely candidate for that. Oh, well, now I know. When in doubt, always suspect MS! :-) Thanks to all who gave me tips!
