I bought a 850 new about 8 years ago. I have only had DX4WIN generate a time out message when I neglect to turn on the rig before bringing DX4WIN (ver 4.05) up. I do use the Kenwood (IF 232c) interface and the CW home brew interface. The secret may be in the Contest programs. Although an avid DXer I do not use or have any contest programs installed. I am really not a contester although I was on the 4 man team at GJ1Y for CQ WW SSB 2000! They gave me the LF bands from 2000 to 0800 UTC with 100 watts and a long wire! I did make a bunch of contacts and it was fun! DXing I do spin the 850 dial and have never had any time out trouble. Good Luck, DX & 73 Don WØDM 326/326 including P5/4L4FN & YA5T
