Cliff, problem solved ! I had forgotten that some time ago ( about the same time I started = getting the error message ) I tried to get my WindowsME to start DX4WIN = on boot up - but it didn't work-and I got the error messages instead. = And I failed to make the connection ( I am getting on a bit ! ) So today = when I deleted DX4WIN from the startup file everything is back to = normal.But why Sartup should find something wrong with DX4WIN and = nothing appears wrong when I start it conventionally , I don't know.
