Paul, I like your suggestions. This will let us update our DXCC confirmations, which is the main thing needed, and in no way keeps you from further integration if you decide to. At least for now, the one electronic confirmation flag would be sufficient.
A couple other things to ponder?
1) Differentiate card-in-hand from electronic confirmations in summaries and
listings?
2) Optionally import other data (state and county) from the LOTW ADIF file?
