Rick, Your AI idea is great, but please consider Aurora is not restricted to VHF ! I have made dozens of Aurora-contacts in the past on HF, mainly 28 MHz, but also a couple on 21 and 18 MHz.... I can tell you all of them had the typical Au-hiss.
