Hi Guys, I sent this out last Saturday, six days ago. I was wondering if it got to you OK as there hasn't been any replies as yet, Just wondering the best way to proceed before I start off on my own and mess it all up. TIA & 73 Alan, [EMAIL PROTECTED]
-------- Original Message -------- Subject: New DX4WIN ver 6.03 install Date: Sat, 14 Aug 2004 01:11:27 -0700 From: Alan C. Zack <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Organization: Amateur Radio Station K7ACZ (http://www.qsl.net/k6acz) To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Gentlemen, I am attempting to begin using DX4WIN for my logging program and I am so confused I don't know how to start. I have ver 6.02 on a CD from Paul, installed it on my PC using WIN XP. Then went to the DX4WIN web site and immediately downloaded and installed ver 6.03. I went to Jim, AD1C's web site and updated the CTY files. I now have 2 DX4WIN folders: C:\Program files\dx4win602 and C:\Program files\dx4win603 Do I need to keep both or can I now delete the ver 6.02 folder? I have over 14,000 contacts on my WJ2O logging program starting in 1983 when I retired from the Coast Guard, moved to CA, and was issued KE6UP. When the vanity call program was restarted I changed my call to K6ACZ. I moved to Nevada almost a year ago and changed my call to K7ACZ. I have paper logs for calls from various QTH's before 1983 but I am not concerned about them. I just want to transfer my WJ2O logs over to DX4WIN. Besides the 3 stateside calls mentioned above I also have DXCC with over 2000 contacts made from the Philippines. I am thinking I need a separate DX4WIN log for my portable DU logs or else my awards tracking, counties needed, etc, will be screwed up. Would you agree? WJ2O uses a system of 3 digit Code Descriptions to track contacts, or groups of contacts. For example, all my portable DU contacts have code numbers from 001 to 049. These are broken down by various contests I entered from there. My stateside KE6UP calls are coded 050 to 099, also broken down into individual contests using that call. Finally, my K6ACZ call contacts are coded 100 and above. I coded them like that so I could filter them by calls I used for printing QSL labels or DXCC submissions. WJ2O did make it easy to use filters to print only certain QSL's or DXCC, WAZ, etc, reports. I have not entered ANY of my K7ACZ calls into the WJ2O program. I have about 200 on paper logs and maybe 1000 as CT contest files to enter. When I first installed DX4WIN I went to preferences and set up my Setup Parameters. But I cannot change my call from K6ACZ to K7ACZ in the callsign box. I suppose that is because it was registered to me as K6ACZ. I have the printed manual and the help files but am stumped on how to get started. I have read how DX4WIN uses GROUP numbers to track different types of contacts. As stated above I have saved my contacts in WJ2O by CODE NUMBERS. For example CODE NUMBER 139 tells me that is a group of contest contacts made by K6ACZ in the 2003 WPX Contest. I can set the WJ2O filter to make an export file of just the contacts made in this example of K6ACZ in the 2003 WPX as an ADIF or Text file. Can I then import just those contacts into DX4WIN using a DX4WIN GROUP number? Then do the same over and over until all my stateside calls have been transferred under different GROUP Numbers? If not, how will I be able to determine what contacts were made under which callsign? (Bill Moore at the DXCC desk has merged my KE6UP and K6ACZ contacts into one DXCC record if that makes any difference). I want to get some expert opinions before I take off in the wrong direction, screw everything up, and have to start all over. I would appreciate any advise you may have.
