Jim:

I need to apologize to you for something that I just fixed.

Several months ago I sent an email to the reflector concerning poor telnet
operation with DX4WIN. I stated that DX4WIN telnet would cease operating after
anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours and that other programs with a "keep
alive" function continued operating for days. Indeed, that was the case and I
finally downloaded the VE7CC AR-cluster user file which has that function and
fully integrates with DX4WIN. Now, after several months, I found out what the
problem was and it was NOT with DX4WIN.

I have an internet security program that runs continuously while my computer is
on. This is a measure to keep hackers out of my machine. I just upgraded to a
new version of this program and while running through the setup and looking at
all the options, I discovered that I had checked the "Lock out Internet after
20 minutes of inactivity." This was the culprit. If there was no activity, I
lost my telnet connection! The supplemental "keep alive" program functions
that other software has masked the real problem I was having.

You had mentioned that you thought my problem was not in DX4WIN, but rather
something else. I disputed that claim at the time since other programs ran
fine. Since I'm a small time computer geek, I thought I knew what I was
talking about. Well, I was wrong and you were right.

My sincere apologies.

Dan -- N3ND
