I don't have 5.03 available to me at the moment. My recollection is that there
is some way to extract files from the installation program (maybe /x ?) but it
doesn't work on 6.03.

There are a couple of choices:

1. Have someone who is still using 5.03 send your the DX4WIN.IEP
    file from their SAVE directory.

2. Backup your entire SAVE directory, uninstall DX4WIN, then re-install
DX4WIN in the same place. Restore all of your SAVE directory files
*except* the DX4WIN.IEP file from the installation which you need
    to keep.

I'd send you the file myself if I could, but I don't have a copy.

Dear Stan,

Great thanks for your advice, the BIOS had switched off the onboard
sound card which I have now enabled and can now access both sounds
cards. Now, as Mel also stated, I can use new sound card for the packet
connection and be safe in the knowledge that I will not be transmitting
all the windows sounds and garbage!!

Many thanks and best 73's

It may have only disabled it in the system (start -> control paned ->
system [if you are using the classic view or Performance and maintenance
then system in category view] -> hardware -> device manager -> sound and
game controllers. I would check this first. Possibly the system turned
off the onboard card in the bios. You might check this when you next
boot up. It could also be that XP just changed the default to the one
you just added. You can check this by going the same route as above
except rather than selecting system, select sounds, speech and audio
devices where you can set the preference for which card is the default
card.

Subject: [Dx4win] second sound card

I am wanting to try these digital modes after years on SSB/CW! I have
some new software which recommends using a second sound card, just for
this software. I brought one and installed it on my PC (Compaq P4,
1700MHz, Op System XP). XP automatically installs the necessary drivers
but then deletes the onboard sound card (built into the mother board).
Does anyone know how I can install this second card and still keep the
first sound card active?? (By the way when I remove the new sound card,
XP reinstalls the on board (first) audio card).
