Subject: [Dx4win] Getting Keyboard CW to Work
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

I have been using DX4WIN for several years but have never been able to get it
to key the rig using keyboard cw. I am using a laptop computer with a usb to
serial converter running Windows XP. The rig is an FT-847. The CAT interface
seems to work fine for displaying frequency, changing bands etc. How do I
configure it to key the rig so I can send keyboard cw? Is there an issue going
through the usb to serial converter and if so what kind of configuration will I
need to make this work. Thanks for the help.

Harry, it doesn't sound like you're using an interface. You need a
simple interface to key the rig. Look in the help file under "CW
interface." I use LPT (parallel) port keying and have built my
interface inside the standard 1/4" plug housing. You can probably do
the same thing if you decide to use the COM (serial) port and its
recommended interface for keying. I believe these interfaces are also
available commercially.

I was also informed by Guy, ON4AOI, that one can key a relay directly
from either of these ports. However, an opto-isolator circuit is
recommended to protect the computer. I have some diagrams of a variety
of interface circuits from a PowerPoint presentation that I can send you.

As far as the USB-to-serial converter is concerned, I don't know.

Hi

Sorted, well at least I think it is.

I had downloaded a piece of software to allow me to
print pdf files. This stopped my printer from working
properly. When I removed it the PSK seemed to work. I
don't know why!
