Tony, I tried some of the release candidates of Vista. I set up my personal
account as administrator. Even though I could install DX4WIN 7.02, I could not
get it to copy the vichw11.sys driver into the Windows directory (insufficient
permission). After several tries, I gave up.

I had the same problem with Windows-64. Even when I installed DX4WIN as a
32-bit application.

I'm typically an early adopter (see the first sentence I wrote). However, I
see no compelling reason to upgrade from Windows XP to Vista.

The vichw11.sys driver issue has nothing to do with account rights. The file
is indeed copied to the desired directory during install. But x64 and Vista
can only use 64 bit drivers and not Win32 drivers . That means that when you
start Dx4Win it is not able to load the vichw11.sys driver and there by show
the error message to install the driver.

A good reason to use x64 or Vista is to be able to use the preforamance
enhancement that the new 64-bit CPU's give.

possibly to just put the head in the sand and say that "Vista looks almost
the same. No reason to use it"
