I'm the original "RTFM" guy and, as a software developer for more than 40 years (yes, 40 years), I pride myself on being able to figure out how software works even without the book.
After a many-year hiatus from ham radio activity, I got back on the air a couple of years ago. Asking about logging software, I was advised that DX4WIN was the way to go so I bought a license and off I went. Since I didn't opt for the CD (shame on me, I guess) I didn't get the user guide. I'm presently running 6.04 and it fundamentally meets my (pretty meager) needs. But several things don't work intuitively for me and I've been digging through the built-in help to avoid having to display my ignorance by asking what should be a simple question here. But, today, my frustration got the better of me. Let's start with the easy one. I have the program up and see my logbook window which contains all my Qs. According to the help, in the QSO window if I press F8 to define a search and type (for example) K1* in the callsign window, the logbook window should change and show me only those Qs for callsigns beginning with "K1". It does not. Instead I get a "No matching QSO found" and the chime. I have perhaps 50 or more callsigns in the log starting with K1 so I don't know what's wrong. This should be quite a simple thing but it doesn't work for me. I've tried it with other configurations of search criteria, nothing works for me. It's like some index isn't present or something. I'll stop now and accept the laughter and scorn; what am I doing wrong? Chaz, W4GKF
