The ICOM radio protocol does not send the SPLIT status to the logging software.
 This has been true for many years, and seems will continue for many years. 
Kenwood and Yaesu do not have this limitation.

Some software, like CT and Writelog, have a command to send a split command to
the radio, so the software can keep track of split itself.  However, if the
user then hits the split button manually, the radio and software will be out of
sync.

Can anyone tell me please how I can prevent Method = Direct etc when printing 
labels.  It is wasting my labels.

By turning off the feature every time you print labels. It's a know bug that 
Dx4win doesn't remember the setting.
