It will accept 0-9 and the hex digits A-F (or a-f).  It always has.  You must
be doing something else wrong.

Unfortunately, I don't have the original message, but if Gary was 
trying to put in an "h" into the field, that could be the issue.

Gary, the "h" just means the value is in hexidecimal, you can leave 
that off what you're trying to enter.
