That did the trick; thanks fellas. I changed (or added) a handfull of qsl managers since the last CTY file.
When I imported the qsl manager file, I got the following: Deleted: 35508 Added: 35319 Replaced: 22 So, by adding/changing a few of the "stock" QSL managers, I seemed to have lost 167 that came with the new CTY file. I followed the instructions on the web site and chose the "Delete" option when importing the saved file. What this says to me is that if I change one QSL manager within a CTY version, and a new CTY version has (say) 100 more managers than the previous version, I loose that new 100 managers because I chose to save an old version with the one custom manager I changed. Is this correct? 73 & Merry Christmas Mark K3MSB On 12/24/07, Art-W6KY <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I changed my 'User Level' from 'Expert' to 'Regular' and I got the > same thing... DX4WIN will fill in the most common ("default") IOTA for that entity, i.e. OC-034 for Papua New Guinea, P29 or OC-045 for American Samoa, KH8. That default IOTA is part of the country file, and each entity may have only one default IOTA. Since the IOTA is stored in your logbook, future country file updates will not change your log in this respect. - if you have logged the callsign before, and you entered an IOTA with that QSO, then when you log the callsign again, DX4WIN will use the IOTA from the previous QSO as the IOTA for this new QSO. It will NOT use the IOTA found in the country file. In either case, DX4WIN may have given you an incorrect IOTA. It is up to you to confirm the correct IOTA with each QSO. Note that this is the way DX4WIN has always worked, and updating the country file does NOT affect the IOTA of any existing QSO in your logbook. In rare cases, I have changed the default IOTA for an entity to a more common one (KH8 is one example, OC-077 was changed to OC-045), but this only affects the entry of new callsigns in the log. 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C/?, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, http://www.ad1c.us From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Dec 25 12:22:25 2007 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Vanderydt Theo) Date: Tue Dec 25 12:22:55 2007 Subject: [Dx4win] RE: Fill in empty States fields Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi Jim es all, Me neither Jim and you know why? Because it is just not possible at all! It took me two full days to partially recover data from old logs and have my WAS score back to where it was before this hassle started. For some odd reason i lost data from about 4000 USA qso's in my logbook. Yes i had a backup but that did'nt contain the data neither. The strange thing is i only lost the state and counties fields in the log. All other data remained. This data is easy to retrieve from the Flying Horse CD rom but with DX4win you have to do this manually! Why is it not possible to retrieve data from the CD for multiple qso's? Now here is how i did recover all lost info in my log. 1) F8 select K and export all USA qso's to ADIF 2) Import the ADIF log into WIN-EQF 3) Open the log in WIN-EQF that holds all the QSO's with lost data. 4) now the fun part !!! Win-EQF has a great feature ->> Search logbook and fill in empty FIELDS. 5) Hit enter and less than a minute later all empty states and counties fields are filled in with data retrieved from the CD rom trough Win-EQF! 6) Export the log back to DX4Win. Why is there no such powerfull tool in DX4Win ? Hopefully this information is usefull to anyone who encouters the same problem. Thank you Jim for keeping the the databases up to date! Merry Xmas and happy 2008 to you and yours. PS: Josep thanks for mailing, i'll have a closer look at it soon. Theo ON4ATW. I don't know how to do this automatically. Do you have the QSOs that you exported from your old logging program? If they are in ADIF format, they might contain the STATE field, and there might be a way to replace the existing DX4WIN QSOs with the original QSOs containing the STATE information. Let me know how I can help. 73 - Jim AD1C On 12/23/2007 1:07 PM, Vanderydt Theo wrote: > Hi all, > > I have about 4000 Q's in my log from USA stations where the state field > is empty. > This happened probable when importing the QSO data from my previous log > but never noticed it until now. > > Now here is my question, is there a solution to automatically fill in the > empty state and county fields? > I really do not want to do this manually as this would take weeks! > How can i export only the 4000 Q's out of the log? > And put them back in afterwards?
