Beware: there is a problem I encountered recently. I have 17k+ USA QSO in YR7M
log, all of it contest QSO. So the only WAS information is from ARRL contests
(2x per year). When trying to fill in empty fields in a effort to complete my
WAS, I found same calls used in different contests from different locations,
i.e. states. Since the info is filled backwards, i.e. from most recent QSO
back, one risks to alter the real information.

Finally I gave up using this feature at all, and limited myself to the info
gathered from actual QSL. FYI, out of 17k QSO, I received 1k+ unsolicited QSL,
mainly by bureau and about 10% via direct. So with a few well directed QSL
requests from my side I fulfilled WAS requirements :)

Subject: [Dx4win] RE: Fill in empty States fields

Hi Jim es all,

Me neither Jim and you know why? Because it is just not possible at all!
It took me two full days to partially recover data from old logs and have
my WAS score back to where it was before this hassle started.
For some odd reason i lost data from about 4000 USA qso's in my logbook.
Yes i had a backup but that did'nt contain the data neither.
The strange thing is i only lost the state and counties fields in the log.
All other
data remained.
This data is easy to retrieve from the Flying Horse CD rom but with DX4win
you have to do this manually! Why is it not possible to retrieve data from
the
CD for multiple qso's?
Now here is how i did recover all lost info in my log.

1) F8 select K and export all USA qso's to ADIF
2) Import the ADIF log into WIN-EQF
3) Open the log in WIN-EQF that holds all the QSO's with lost data.
4) now the fun part !!! Win-EQF has a great feature ->> Search logbook and
fill in empty FIELDS.
5) Hit enter and less than a minute later all empty states and counties
fields are filled in
with data retrieved from the CD rom trough Win-EQF!
6) Export the log back to DX4Win.

Why is there no such powerfull tool in DX4Win ?
Hopefully this information is usefull to anyone who encouters the same
problem.
Thank you Jim for keeping the the databases up to date!
Merry Xmas and happy 2008 to you and yours.

PS: Josep thanks for mailing, i'll have a closer look at it soon.

Theo ON4ATW.

I don't know how to do this automatically. Do you have the QSOs that
you exported from your old logging program? If they are in ADIF format,
they might contain the STATE field, and there might be a way to replace
the existing DX4WIN QSOs with the original QSOs containing the STATE
information.

Let me know how I can help.

A favor please ...

If you have a relatively new Backmaster database loaded on your
HD, please enter K4TER (temporarily) in your log and see if you
obtain a different address shown via F3 than what is directly
shown in the Buckmaster look-up window.

As I've said below, the question does not concern K4TER's
different address listings, but raises the question of which
source shoule be the one I use for what I enter into the DX4WIN
fields. How many oither "K4TER situations" are there?

Subject: [Dx4win] Call look-up question

I have Ver. 7.02.15 running on two computers.

I've purchased and installed the current Buckmaster CD
on both computers. The CD is not in the HD.

I've just discovered ... by accident .. that the address
info for K4TER that DX4WIN presents to me is NOT the
one from the newly-loaded Buckmaster data. Where is
DX4WIN getting the "old" info from? Is my previous edition
of Buckmaster stored within DX4WIN? I didn't think so.

My question does not involve K4TER, but relates to the
apparent different "old" source that the program is using.

BTW, the entire "old" Buckmaster program and info was
deleted before loading the "new" program.

I am dial-up and don't use on-line look-up.

Any suggestions?
