Dear friends

It would be very nice if somebody could help me with fixing a problem
in DX4WIN.

I have been using DX4WIN for around 10 years now, the current version being 7.04
with the LOG containing over 151 000 QSOs (.dxl file is 13,7 mB).
Since earlier versions of the program I have noticed the same problem that
bothers me
a little. DX4WIN seems to be losing some information in the field "notes for
this call".
The same thing has happened in ALL Versions of the program used on different
computers.
Today, for instance, all the info in the said field got erased for whatever
reason in
the majority of OSOs, but NOT IN ALL. I lost info for all QSOs with prefixes
V63 to ZZ.

The steps that I took to try and salvage the file with info in the
above field:

1 Export LOG into DX4WIN6 format, resulting in xxx.DXQ and xxx.DXN files
2 Compared a new xxx.DXN file with the one previously archived. The new file
contains
only the latest 254 "notes for this call", whereas the archived file has 7100
notes...
3 Edited the new xxx.DXN file in Microsoft Excel, adding the missing ones to
it from
the archive file
4 Created a new LOG
5 Imported xxx.DXQ file into it

The result was no promising - above 1000 errors and the erased fields
were not recovered.

Attempts to use Import/Export functions were not successful either. Sometimes
the field
in question got filled with strange characters, in other cased info
there got duplicated.

In some cases either all newly created groups disappear or the fields "Cnfm"
and "Upl Cnf"
get mixed up leading to confusion.

If anybody could help with dealing with the above problem, I would
appreciate it very much.

Thank you,
Victor UA6AF
