FWIW, I went from XP to Win7 with a new laptop a few months ago. I'm using an USB to 2 COM port box made by Easy Sync, model es-u-1002-m. I picked it up on Ebay for about $20, as I recall. I've had no problems whatsoever with it, controlling the radio with one port and sending CW with the other. I made no changes to the default settings in Win7.
