Running Dx4win 8.05 under Windows 7 64-bit, I worked on trying to get CW announcements to work long enough that I thought I was hallucinating. Then I heard some snippets of faint CW. I turned off my FM radio, the shack got very quiet, and it was not just ESP but CW at RST 219. I looked at the Dx4win screen and saw it was indeed CW announcements.
Now it made sense. My new computer has a fairly quiet case (Silencio 550) and its "system speaker" (the internal beeper) seems quieter than most. It is a small piezoelectric speaker plugged into the motherboard. If I want to be able to copy this thing, I'm going to have to get a louder one and/or extend its cable to get it outside the case. I reran my tests of Dx4win version 7 and 8 running in the Virtual Machine - XP mode. CW announcements work in this configuration, but they come through the computer's external speakers. XP mode obviously takes commands to the beeper and reroutes them to the normal audio channels. Thanks to those who helped. 73, Paul K5ESW ______________________________________________________________ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
