Probably the same reason I have problems with group sorting (and still do and don't think I fully understand it). You cannot just go to "Filter - Selection" and choose Group 1. You have to "Add" a selection, rename it, double click the Group 1 heading (so a little 'x' shows) and then check off "Group Filter", Update, OK . Then you will have a Selection Filter on your drop down list for Group 1. I actually created one for all groups except one group.
Try just "Filter - Search" (or F8 Search) and put '1' (no quotes) in the Group box and hit enter. If that does not list them only, then you do have other problems.
