Bob, it would be helpful if you mentioned the radio model and settings
(i.e. baud rate etc.)

There is no "connection closed" message, I think it says "radio timed
out" or something like that.

I have never had any problems keeping either ICOM or Yaesu radios
connected via the microHAM microKEYER (original) or microKEYER II.  I
assume the USB Keyer III (?) you are using has the same hardware for
the radio interface.
