I think the best way to manage this (I assume that you want to work on the cq marathon award-contest), is to make it with selection tool. Let's say you have your log. What you want is to see for award purposes only the qsos in 2015 and only these qsos count for an award and especially for dxcc. Follow these steps:
1. In QSO window go to Filter>Selection
2.Press Add
3.Where it writes "replace this name" write a new name. Let's say sv1dpi2015
4.In date filter box write the dates you need. First date: 1 jan 2015 and Last Date: 31 dec 2015
5.Check the date filter box
6.Press Update
7. Press ok
Now you have to see only the qsos inside the dates you put. And if a new dxcc entity comes, it will be yellow. If you need to see again all of your qsos, you need to go to Filter>Selection and in the Current Selection Box to select the "All QSOs" option. This way you can choose 2015 qsos again. This solution is far better I think than to keep and backup 2 different logs. Of course it would be better if there was a CQ Marathon mode somewhere, and only the new 2015 entities are yellow, and not the new bands. This way I could see if a new band or a new mode for my whole log is possible...

I am confused about how DX4WIN handles a log file that I made and currently
have loaded with only the contacts starting with 01/2015. The log file with
only 2015 contacts are in and fine but DX4WIN is still keying on my log from
the very beginning of 2002 for spot colors/numbers?
I want DX4WIN to only key on the log I have loaded which are Q's from
01/2015 to current? The "spot" and "other" contacts are still keying on my
log from 2002.
How do I tell DX4WIN to use the current loaded log which has Q's starting
from 2015 to populate the spot window and the others window not the log file
from 2002 to present?
I'm trying to work DXCC starting with 2015 which is the log I have loaded.
Thanks.
