Ray, guess I don't understand your connection process. I am running version 
8.05 and here's how I do it.
1. Start program2. Right click mouse in packet window and drop down of nodes 
appears.3. Top node ( VE7CC ) is last one used so I press enter.4. Type in call 
sign and am connected

While I agree that I'd like to have an easier way to connect (and would 
like to have it connect automatically, if so desired), what I do now is 
I use Autohotkey (http://www.autohotkey.com/) to automate starting 
DX4WIN. It starts it, connects the packet cluster, and even runs some 
additional programs that I have running when I'm operating. Although you 
can do some very sophisticated things with AHK, starting a program and 
other basic things are quite simple.
