If it's doing it with the radio off, make sure that you have the input
to MMTTY set to line in, and that you aren't using a webcame or other
microphone which might be picking up other noises in your shack. That's
under Options->Setup->Sound Card on the RTTY Control panel window.
To change the function keys, right-click on them in the terminal window
and select Edit Function Keys.

It's trying to decode noise, so you just get random junk. My radio, which has a
built-in decoder, does the same thing. You can play around with the squelch or
other adjustments to minimize that, but I don't think it'll ever go completely
away.
