Unfortunately, that's the only way to do it today. Perhaps in the future, Paul could find a way to automate this for custom awards whose custom value "code" exactly matches a DXCC prefix in the country file. You would probably still need to populate JW/Bear Island, IT9/Sicily, etc. by yourself, but a much smaller job. The Fred Fish Memorial Award could also benefit, by identifying matching 6 meter QSOs by VUCC grid square. There could be other such custom awards.
